Eiksund Tunnel

The Eiksund tunnel (Norwegian: "Eiksundsambandet") is an undersea tunnel between the municipalities of Volda and Ulstein in Møre og Romsdal county in Norway. The tunnel, which joins the island of Hareidlandet with mainland Norway, serves the municipalities of Herøy, Sande, Ulstein, Hareid, Ørsta and Volda which together have over 40,000 inhabitants.

The tunnel is convert|7765|m|ft|0|abbr=on long and convert|287|m|ft|0|abbr=on deep, which makes it the deepest undersea tunnel of its kind in the world.The tunnel was opened for public traffic in February 2008. The convert|405|m|ft|0|abbr=on long Eiksund Bridge and the convert|1160|m|ft|0|abbr=on long Helgehorn Tunnel were built along with the tunnel. These three structures are a part of Riksvei 653, a county highway that links Riksvei 61 between Ulstein and Herøy to Europavei 39 between Ørsta and Volda.
