AMPROFON

Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas, A.C. (English: Mexican association of Producers of Phonograms and Videograms, A.C.)

It groups the phonographic companies that represent more of the 70 percent of the market in Mexico. It's a non-profit organization integrated by multinational and national record companies. Associated member of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) that is and organization that promotes the interests of the International Record Industry. Their members include more than 1,400 separate companies in more than 70 countries. Also it has national groups affiliated with the industry in 48 countries. IFPI's mission is to fight against the piracy; to promote right markets of access and laws of copyright; To develop the legal conditions and the technologies so that the recording industry prospers in the digital era; and to promote the value of music.

History

In need to create an organization to represent the rights and interests of the producers of phonograms in Mexico on April 3 1963, a Civil Association called Phonographic Discs Producers (AMPRODISC) was created.

On July 26 1971, the name was changed to Mexican Phonogram Producers Association (Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas), and, as a result of the music video releases, on May 3 1990 the name was changed to Mexican association of Producers of Phonograms and Videograms (AMPROFON), its current name.

Although, it says 'Albums in English' it means 'International' since artist with non-English albums are counted in this chart, only the Top 20 is published, no matter the nationality, if the album is in Spanish the album will not be eligible to chart. The Popular Music Albums Chart
