The Street (TV series)

"The Street" is a BBC television series created by Jimmy McGovern which follows the lives of different residents of one street in Manchester. Produced by ITV Productions for BBC One, it began in 2006. It has an all star cast including Timothy Spall, Jane Horrocks, Jim Broadbent and Sue Johnston. The second series began airing on 8 November 2007 on BBC One. In May 2007 the first series won the British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series. The BBC uses Parrs Wood Technology College as the filming location for the school in the show.

The Accident

Jane Horrocks plays Angela Quinn, a housewife involved in an exciting affair with her neighbour Paul (Shaun Dooley). A moment of carelessness leaves Angela's life in tatters as her daughter lies in a coma and Paul is to blame.

Stan

Jim Broadbent stars as a retired factory worker who decides to commit suicide upon discovering that his pension is not enough to live on.

This episode has a lot to say about how British society treats the elderley. Sue Johnston also stars.

The Flasher

Neil Dudgeon stars as a popular secondary school teacher who is accused of flashing a young girl in his nearby park.

A second series of "The Street" aired in 2007. Timothy Spall returned as taxi driver Eddie, whilst David Thewlis, Bronagh Gallagher, June Watson, Mark Benton, Michael Taylor, Dean Andrews, Claire Hackett, Gina McKee, Lorraine Ashbourne, Vincent Regan, Julia Ford, Will Mellor, and Toby Kebbell also made appearances.
