- Finckenstein Palace
The Finckenstein Palace was a
barock palace built between 1716 and 1720 in formerEast Prussia , todayPoland . It was built byPrussia nfieldmarshall Marquess andCount Albrecht Konrad Reinhold Finck von Finckenstein and remained in the possession of theFinck von Finckenstein family till 1782. After that the Counts Dohna-Schlobitten lived in it till1945 , when theRed Army set the palace in fire January 22nd 1945. The ruins are still visible.The palace became well known in 1807, when Napoleon made it his residence from April till June 1807. When he saw the palace for the first time, he said: "Enfin un chateau". The
Treaty of Finckenstein between France and Persia was signed here. Here he met his mistressMaria Walewska with whom he lived in the palace. The Hollywood movie "Conquest" was filmed here in 1937 withGreta Garbo undCharles Boyer .ee also
