Jim Shaw is the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Shaw Communications [ [http://www.sauder.ubc.ca/bfc/events/shawfamily.cfm Sauder School of Business | Business Families Centre - Family Legacy Dinner Series - 2004 Feature Family - JR Shaw Family ] ] Inc. Prior to his appointment as CEO in December 1998, Jim Shaw held a variety of senior management positions with the company, including President, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President, Operations. Mr. Shaw joined the company in 1982.

Jim Shaw is an active participant within the North American cable television industry, serving as past Chairman of the Canadian Cable Television Association from 1996 until 2002 and a past board member of CableLabs, Cancom, Microcell, Group Telecom and Excite@Home.

Outside of the cable industry, Jim Shaw serves on the Board of United Acquisitions Inc., and the Board of Governors for Shawnigan Lake School in British Columbia and Strathcona Tweedsmuir School in Calgary , Alberta . He is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization. Mr. Shaw is a past member of the Board of Governors for both the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta.

His father is JR Shaw the Canadian businessman who started Shaw Communications and is the executive chairman, his brother Bradley S. Shaw, is a senior vice president of Shaw Communications.
