Film Censorship Board of Malaysia

Film Censorship Board of Malaysia

The Film Censorship Board of Malaysia is an agency of the Malaysian government that vets films. It is under the authority of the Home Ministry.

The Board was established under Film Censorship Act and was revised again under the same Act on 1 April 2002. Any film that is going to be screened in Malaysia has to go through the censorship board. Based on the Act, no one is allowed to screen any film in public places without having the approval and the license from the Board.

The Board watches the uncensored film with the guidelines approved by the cabinet in 1993 in their mind. The film receives the approval for viewing only after the Board is satisfied that the film abide the rules and regulations of Film Censorship Board.

Among the films that had been banned under the agency is Daredevil (film), Homerun (film), and The Prince of Egypt.
