Illinois Service

Illinois Service

The "Illinois Service" is a passenger rail network that consists of six routes operated by Amtrak to provide frequent daily service between Chicago and other cities in the U.S. states of Illinois and Missouri.

The "Illinois Service" is made up of the following routes:
*The "Carl Sandburg" (381/382): Chicago to Quincy, Illinois
*The "Illinois Zephyr" (380/383): Chicago to Quincy, Illinois
*The "Illini" (392/393): Chicago to Carbondale, Illinois
*The "Lincoln Service" (300/301/302/305/306/307): Chicago to St. Louis, Missouri
*The "Saluki" (390/391): Chicago to Carbondale, Illinois

On 30 October 2006, two new routes and one rebranded route were introduced in response to increasing demand. The "Carl Sandburg" and the "Saluki" provide additional service on the "Illinois Zephyr" and "Illini" lines, respectively. The new "Lincoln Service" provides an increased schedule and new name to the rebranded "State House" route. Each line provides train service at least twice each day. "Lincoln Service" #301 does not stop at every station. The "Illinois Service" is funded primarily by the Illinois Department of Transportation. (The "Ann Rutledge" route is jointly funded with the State of Missouri, as part of their "Missouri Service".)

The "California Zephyr", "Southwest Chief", "Texas Eagle" and "City of New Orleans" also travel on the tracks used by "Illinois Service" trains. However, these national trains generally do not stop at all of the stations served by the local "Illinois Service" trains.
