Wes Craven has the most films on the list with five ("The Last House on the Left", "The Hills Have Eyes", "The Serpent and the Rainbow", "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Scream"). The filmmakers that tie for second with three films are George A. Romero ("Night of the Living Dead", "Dawn of the Dead" and "Creepshow"), David Cronenberg ("The Fly", "The Brood" and "The Dead Zone") and Steven Spielberg ("Jurassic Park", "Duel" and "Jaws", the latter of which was voted as the scariest moment). The filmmakers that tie for third with two films are John Carpenter ("John Carpenter's The Thing" and "Halloween"), David Fincher ("Se7en" and "The Game"), M. Night Shyamalan ("The Sixth Sense" and "Signs"), Alfred Hitchcock ("Psycho" and "The Birds"), Mario Bava ("Black Sunday" and "Blood and Black Lace"), Tod Browning ("Freaks" and "Dracula"), Roman Polanski (Rosemary's Baby and The Tenant), Tobe Hooper ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Poltergeist"), and Lucio Fulci ("Zombie" and "The Beyond"). It should also be noted that, while only one movie by Dario Argento appears on the list("Suspiria"), another movie on the list, "Demons", was produced, but not directed by him.

There are also six Stephen King adaptations on the list ("Carrie", "Cujo", "The Dead Zone", "Misery", "Pet Semetary" and "The Shining"). A sixth movie on the list, "Creepshow", was not an adaptation but was a film co-written by him.
