Mustapha Bangura (born October 24, 1989 in Freetown, Sierra Leone) nickname Hadji, is a Sierra Leonean International footballer. He is a Striker or attacking midfielder for Apollon Limassol in the Cypriot First Division, the highest football league in Cyprus and for the Sierra Leone national football team. He made his senior international debut for Sierra Leone on September 6, 2006 in a 2008 African Nations Cup qualifier against Mali in Freetown.

On May 24, 2011 Mustapha Bangura was involved in a serious car crash in Bo, Sierra Leone that left both of his legs broken. Bangura came to Bo, from Freetown to watch a Sierra Leone National Premier League game between the Nepean Stars of Bo and FC Kallon. The accident occurred when Bangura tried to avoid a dog on the road and subsequently had his BMW vehicle slip-off the road and hit a tree. [2][3].

Club career

Mustapha Bangura or Hadji, as he is commonly known was born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone to parent from the Temne ethnic group. He attended the Sierra Leone Grammar School Murray Town Freetown. Hadji was the best footballer at his secondary school and one of the best young footballers in Sierra Leone. Also he has the fastest goal scoring record in the history of junior Sierra Leonean football and secondary school competition. In 2004 he joined Old Edwardians, one of the top clubs in the Sierra Leone National Premier League. He spent two seasons with Edwards before he moved to Europe and joined the Cyprus First Division club Nea Salamina FC in 2006. In 2008 he joined AC Omonoia.[1] The next year he moved to Apollon Limassol and he helped the team to win the 2009–10 Cypriot Cup, scoring also the opening goal of the final.

For some weeks he was under intensive scouting from AS Monaco, Olympiacos FC and Werder Bremen.

International career

He made his senior international debut for Sierra Leone on September 6, 2006 in a 2008 African Nations Cup qualifier against Mali in Freetown.

Car Crash

On May 24, 2011 Mustapha Bangura was involved in a serious car crash in Bo, Sierra Leone that left both of his legs broken. Bangura came to Bo, from Freetown to watch a Sierra Leone National Premier League game between the Nepean Stars of Bo and F.C Kallon.

The accident occurred close to Bo Town, southern Sierra Leone when Bangura tried to avoid a dog on the road and subsequently had his BMW slip-off the road and hit a tree.

Bangura was immediately rushed to the Bo Government Hospital for treatment and was later transferred to Freetown for proper medical attention.
