Character Progression

The character was added to the show at the end of the eighth season. He is partnered with Det. Odafin Tutuola. On April 18, 2008, it was announced Beach would not return for "SVU"'s tenth season. Characteristics

Lake is of Native American ancestry, Mohawk nation, as revealed in the episode "Impulsive". He speaks proudly of his ancestors who helped build the city (many ironworkers in early New York were indeed Native Americans). Every male member of his family for the preceding three generations was an ironworker. He is originally from the Brooklyn SVU. In the season 9 episode "Avatar" he says he is a collector of rare books. He often suffers from insomnia, which can sometimes be beneficial in solving a case, as it did in locating informants in the episode "Harm". In the episode "Svengali", he got a concussion to the head when Benson's stalker put a bomb in a pizza box.

Lake used to compete as an amateur mixed martial artist with the fight name "Naptime" (due to his right hook) and had plans to turn pro, but quit after suffering a torn ACL. In the episode "Fight" in season nine he also tells his coworkers that he was a foster child.

History

In the Season 9 finale, Lake attends a meeting of individuals in Philadelphia who share information on "cold" murder cases. He later disappears after shooting and killing a fellow police officer. Stabler and the other SVU cops find out that Lake knew the dead cop from his early days on the force, and then find out that the dead cop was suspected of raping two illegal immigrants a decade earlier and killing one of them, with the other young girl disappearing. Lake, who found the surviving victim, is arrested for murder. However, more evidence led to the discovery that Lake was shot at by someone else and killed the other cop in self defense, and this led to a second suspect, a fellow NYPD officer with a history of brutality. Following a jury deadlock in the case of the second suspect (due to the questionable decisions by ADA Casey Novak), Lake is found standing over the suspect's body. He is arrested again, and the last shot of the episode is of him sitting in the back of a squad car.
