Jeff Jacobson is a Republican member of the Ohio Senate, representing the 6th District since 2001. Previously he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1992 until 2000.

Jacobson hoped to succeed Doug White as president of the Ohio Senate following the 2004 election (White was prevented by Ohio's term limits laws from running for re-election). However, in the summer of 2004, it was revealed that Jacobson was involved with associates of Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder, Brett Buerck and Kyle Sisk, who were under investigation for violating federal and state campaign financing laws. (They were subsequently cleared of all charges). In July, Jacobson announced that he would not seek the Senate's top job and settled for the No. 2 spot as president pro tempore, allowing Senator Bill Harris to take the top slot.

Despite these difficulties, Jacobson easily won re-election in 2004 against Democratic challenger Jason Stanton.
