The Stangenwald Building located on Merchant Street,built in year 1962, used to be the first skyscraper in Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition, The Stangenwald building has a reputation of being fireproof. It was built with steel frame, concrete floorings, brick construction, flame-proof vault on each and every floor.
Stangenwald was constructed with an elevator which made the law library in those days accessible, hence attracted many lawyers as tenants for most of its life. As a result, today, Stangenwald has a reputation having well established firms leasing the suites in Stangenwald. E.g. Architecture firms, attorneys, etc. It is highly competitive to get a space in this Historical building. Some individuals have stated that it is worth more than a class A building. The Stangenwald Building is currently managed by American Land Company.
