Mir-101 microRNA precursor family

Mir-101 microRNA precursor family

miR-101 microRNA precursor is a small non-coding RNA that regulates gene expression. Expression of miR-101 has been validated in both human ( [http://microrna.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/sequences/mirna_entry.pl?acc=MI0000103 MI0000103] , [http://microrna.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/sequences/mirna_entry.pl?acc=MI0000739 MI0000739] ) [cite journal | last = Mourelatos | first = Z | coauthors = Dostie J, Paushkin S, Sharma A, Charroux B, Abel L, Rappsilber J, Mann M, Dreyfuss G | year = 2002 | title = miRNPs: a novel class of ribonucleoproteins containing numerous microRNAs | journal = Genes Dev | volume = 16 | pages = 720–728 | pmid = 11914277 | doi = 10.1101/gad.974702] and mouse ( [http://microrna.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/sequences/mirna_entry.pl?acc=MI0000148 MI0000148] ). [cite journal | last = Lagos-Quintana | first = M | coauthors = Rauhut R, Yalcin A, Meyer J, Lendeckel W, Tuschl T | year = 2002 | title = Identification of tissue-specific microRNAs from mouse | journal = Curr Biol | volume = 12 | pages = 735–739 | pmid = 12007417 | doi = 10.1016/S0960-9822(02)00809-6] This microRNA appears to be specific to the vertebrates and has now been predicted or confirmed in a wide range of vertebrate species ( [http://microrna.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/sequences/mirna_summary.pl?fam=MIPF0000046 MIPF0000046] ). The precursor microRNA is a stem-loop structure of about 70 nucleotides in length that is processed by the Dicer enzyme to form the 21-24 nucleotide mature microRNA. In this case the mature sequence is excised from the 3' arm of the hairpin.
