Mir-92 microRNA precursor family

Mir-92 microRNA precursor family

The miR-92 microRNA precursor family are small non-coding RNA genes that regulate gene expression by antisense binding. This family includes the related mir-92-1 and mir-92-2 sequences. Human miR-92 has two predicted hairpin precursor sequences: mir-92-1 on chromosome 13 and mir-92-2 on chromosome X cite journal |author=Mourelatos Z, Dostie J, Paushkin S, "et al" |title=miRNPs: a novel class of ribonucleoproteins containing numerous microRNAs |journal=Genes Dev. |volume=16 |issue=6 |pages=720–8 |year=2002 |pmid=11914277 |doi=10.1101/gad.974702 |issn=] . miR-92 has also been cloned from mouse embryonic stem cells cite journal |author=Houbaviy HB, Murray MF, Sharp PA |title=Embryonic stem cell-specific MicroRNAs |journal=Dev. Cell |volume=5 |issue=2 |pages=351–8 |year=2003 |pmid=12919684 |doi= |issn=] . The mature sequence is excised from the 3' arm of the hairpin.

miR-92b has been characterised as a cancer associated microRNA cite journal |author=Lu J, Getz G, Miska EA, "et al" |title=MicroRNA expression profiles classify human cancers |journal=Nature |volume=435 |issue=7043 |pages=834–8 |year=2005 |pmid=15944708 |doi=10.1038/nature03702 |issn=]
