Isle of Wight Festival 2004

Isle of Wight Festival 2004

The Isle of Wight Festival 2004 , June 11 - June 13 2004, is the third revived Isle of Wight Festival held on the Seaclose Park site in Newport on the Isle Of Wight. The festival capacity, 35,000, was a massive increase on the previous years capacity, and represented its burgeoning status as a force in the United Kingdom festival circuit. It was the first year of Nokia sponsorship, which attracted talents such as The Who and David Bowie. The Libertines were scheduled to perform but pulled out due to sickness of Pete Doherty.

The atmosphere of the festival was somewhat muted on the Sunday evening as England were playing in a Euro 2004 football match against France. This was shown on screens around the festival site, which diverted the crowd's attention from the music to the football. The mood was further soured when England ultimately lost 2-1, with a brace of last minute goals by Zinedine Zidane. However, the crowd returned to high spirits to watch David Bowie.
