Walter Dix (born January 31, 1986 in Coral Springs, Florida) is an American sprinter who attended Florida State University and is a member of Phi Beta Sigma. In the 2007 NCAA East Regional final, Dix set the all-time collegiate record of 19.69 in the 200, breaking a record that had stood since 1988 and posting what was then the world's fastest time of the year. At the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships, he set the American Collegiate Record with a time of 9.93 in the 100 m. He also became the first man since 1969 (John Carlos - San Jose State) to win the 100 m and 200 m and run a leg on the winning 4x100 m relay team at the NCAA Championships.

In 2007, he shot to number five on the all time 200 m list with his 19.69. He spent much of early 2008 battling a hamstring injury. However, at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Dix won the 200 m while placing fourth in the 100 m.

On June 29, 2008, Walter Dix qualified for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad after placing second in the 100 m in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon with a time of 9.80 seconds (wind +4.1). On July 6th, he also qualified in the 200 m, winning in a time of 19.86 seconds. On August 16, he won the bronze (9.91) at the Olympic Games in the men's 100 m event, finishing behind new world record holder Usain Bolt of Jamaica and Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago.On August 20, despite finishing fifth, Dix won the bronze medal in the men's 200 m event (19.98), after Churandy Martina of the Netherlands Antilles and fellow American Wallace Spearmon, who finished second and third respectively, were disqualified for stepping on the inside lines of their lanes in the final.
