International Road Federation

International Road Federation

The International Road Federation (IRF) is the worldwide platform for all those in the private and public sector and for members of civil society who believe road infrastructure to be a purveyor of social and economic welfare and wish to contribute in reinforcing its ever central role in today’s society.

Established in 1948 and with members in 6 continents, the IRF seeks to promote the benefits of a valid road transport infrastructure at all levels of society. The IRF, through its three Programme Centres located in Brussels, Geneva and Washington, is active in the advocacy of all issues relevant to the road industry, from financing to technology and from development to safety. It organises seminars, workshops and events for a broad range of audiences as well as acting as representative for its over 350 strong membership base.

An IRF Research Council is tasked with conducting research into road safety, smart mobility, sustainable roads and competitiveness.

A World Executive Board is charged with overseeing the operations of the federation and providing general policy guidance to the secretariats of the three Programme Centres.
