Yogesh Golwalkar

Yogesh Golwalkar

Yogesh Golwalkar (born February 13, 1980) is an Indian cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm leg-break bowler.

The majority of Golkwalkar's career has been spent playing for his home team of Madhya Pradesh, where he started playing first-team cricket in the year 2000, though he has also played briefly in Zimbabwe. Golwalkar's debut first-class match, in the 2000/01 Ranji Trophy, took place in the Central Zone competition, where he got up to the quarter-finals in his first season. Though he played very little in his first two seasons, he hit his stride in 2002/03, as he helped the team to the Plate semi-finals, and once again in 2003/04, where Madhya Pradesh finished second to a powerful Maharashtra team. Following the end of the 2003/04 season, Golwalkar took part in two games for the Indian A cricket team, going to play in Zimbabwe and Kenya before making it home for the following year's competition.

The following season, 2004/05, was impressive, as Madhya Pradesh were in the Elite Group of the Ranji Trophy, and his form in this year's competition was good enough to have him noticed by several English county cricket teams. However, it was to Middlesex he was to find himself travelling late in the 2005 cricket season, and, before he left back for India, he played two games in Middlesex's push for sixth position in the table.

Since the close of the 2005 season, Golwalkar has played sporadically in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 Ranji Trophy competitions, helping Madhya Pradesh to a semi-final place early in 2006. Golwalkar is a lower-order batsman for the Indian team, whose form and tenacity at bat brought him brief, but worthwhile attention.
