Lisa Gwilym

Lisa Gwilym

Lisa Gwilym (born 17 June 1975) is a Welsh broadcaster who currently presents late evening and weekend afternoon shows on BBC Radio Cymru and the S4C arts programme, "Y Sioe Gelf".

Originally from Henllan in Denbighshire, Gwilym began her career at S4C in 1998 as a continuity announcer and presenter for the Planed Plant children's strand.

The "Uned 5" years

In October 2001, she joined the live teen magazine programme "Uned 5" (Unit 5) as a presenter. During her time on the show, Gwilym took part in the 2003 John Cooper Mini Challenge.cite web | publisher = | title = John Cooper Challenge article in Welsh | work = Uned 5 website | url = http://www.uned5.co.uk/default.asp?frmpage=mini03intro | format = HTML | accessdate = 2008-04-09] She also co-presented a special documentary with then-colleague Gethin Jones from Madagascar. This was broadcast over the Christmas holidays in 2004. Beforehand, she announced on Friday 16th December that she was leaving her presenting role. Gwilym stayed at Antena Television (the producers of "Uned 5") to work as a producer on the show.

C2 radio show

In Summer 2003, Gwilym started her own late night radio show on Mondays and Tuesdays as part of the C2 youth strand on BBC Radio Cymru. Broadcast live from BBC Cymru's studios in Bangor, the programe featured contemporary Welsh-language music, exclusive acoustic sessions, news from the industry, interviews and regular features such as a What's On guide on Mondays, an album chart update on Tuesdays, "Artistiad yr Wythnos" (Artist of the Week) and "Can Hir" (Long Song). Listeners' texts, e-mails and phone calls were also included on the live shows.

The programme was broadcast between 11:30pm and 1:00am at first but later extended by 30 minutes (with a new start time of 11:00pm). At the start of 2007, the programme was expanded to Sunday afternoons and Saturday afternoons during the summer (albeit, pre-recorded).

Gwilym's 11pm show ended on Tuesday 2nd October 2007. On Thursday 11th October 2007, she started presenting a shorter, one hour show at a new time of 10pm on Thursdays and Fridays. Despite the changes, the pre-recorded Sunday afternoon show remains on-air as does the summer Saturday programme.

Y Sioe Gelf

On Tuesday 8th April 2008, Lisa returned to television presenting on a regular basis as the new presenter of Y Sioe Gelf, S4C's flagship arts programme.

Other work

Gwilym has also presented S4C's coverage of the Welsh National Eisteddfod (in 2003 + 2004), the Brecon Jazz Festival and since 2006, "Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau" (Dolgellau's Big Session). She has also presented highlights programmes from the "Tan y Ddraig" (Dragon's Fire) concert - the traditional final night of Bryn Terfel's Faenol Festival. On 16 November 2007, Lisa reported from the BBC's Bangor studios into Children in Need's Welsh opt-out coverage.
