Venezuelan passport

Venezuelan passports are issued to citizens of Venezuela to travel outside of the country. Biometric passports have been issued since July 2007, with a RFID chip containing a picture and fingerprints. According to Venezuelan law, all passports (the old light blue or the old red covered, with the old country name and/or old Coat of arms) are valid until the expiration date, but the light blue covered passport are not accepted for travel in the United States of America. In the future, the Venezuelan government might change the passport format to a deep blue color cover and a Mercosur inscription. This could happen after the congress of Paraguay accepts full membership in Mercosur.
