"There's Always Room for Cello" is an episode of the sitcom "Wings" that aired on December 14, 1990.
Plot
Roy's 17 year-old son R. J. wants to take cello lessons from Helen. He has misgivings about letting him do it, but relents when he explains that he is attracted to Helen. Helen tries to let R. J. down easy, but he says that he really isn't attracted to her at all; in fact, he's gay. He also comes out to Brian, Fay and Lowell, but Helen wants him not to tell Roy because he might not take it well.
R. J. has other ideas, however. Helen discovers that he's signed up to be the grand marshal of the town's Gay pride parade, and decides that he doesn't have a choice. And as expected, Roy takes it badly, to the point that he can't even get the word "gay" out. He proposes that he and R. J. settle the matter by making baskets--whoever makes 20 baskets wins the argument. R. J. wins, but Roy changes the rules, and they play to exhaustion. Lying on the floor next to each other, R. J. explains that it doesn't matter how many baskets he makes; it's still not going to change the fact that he's gay. Roy, however, won't accept that, and as the episode ends, they're still playing basketball.
