Somewhere Out There (James Horner song)

Somewhere Out There (James Horner song)

"Somewhere Out There" is a song written by James Horner, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. It appears in the 1986 animated film "An American Tail".

The lyrics describe, as in the film's story, the bond between two siblings and their optimistic hope in being able to see one another again after being separated. The song was sung by Phillip Glasser (for the character of the brother in the film) and Betsy Cathcart (for the character of the sister).

A professionally sung version performed by Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram was also recorded for the closing credits. The Ronstadt–Ingram single went to #2 on the "Billboard" Hot 100 singles chart in March 1987. see|1987 in music

Tanya Mousekewitz (the sister) begins to sing this again at the beginning of the film's 1991 sequel "", but is interrupted by people throwing produce at her.

On 9 April 2008, an episode of South Park entitled "Eek! A Penis!" made a reference to this song when a mouse that had a penis genetically attached to it, sang the song with the penis as it witnessed the moonlight in a chase scene with Ms. Garrison.

Awards

At the Grammy Awards of 1988, the song won two awards, one for Song of the Year and the other for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television. It also earned an Academy Award nomination in 1987 for Best Original Song.

At the 59th Annual Academy Awards, Natalie Cole performed the song live with James Ingram.
