Sweet Water is a town in Marengo County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 234.

Geography

Sweet Water is located at coor dms|32|5|52|N|87|51|55|W|city (32.097781, -87.865416)GR|1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.1 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 234 people, 93 households, and 73 families residing in the town. The population density was 119.1 people per square mile (45.9/km²). There were 107 housing units at an average density of 54.5/sq mi (21.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 92.31% White, 5.56% Black or African American, 1.71% Native American, and 0.43% from two or more races.

There were 93 households out of which 34.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.9% were married couples living together, 5.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.5% were non-families. 21.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the town the population was spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 3.8% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 107.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $50,781, and the median income for a family was $61,786. Males had a median income of $45,938 versus $17,000 for females. The per capita income for the town was $19,582. About 2.6% of families and 4.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.3% of those under the age of eighteen and 9.8% of those sixty five or over.
