Kevin Hartnett (born 1984) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Russell Rovers and is also a member of the Cork senior inter-county team.

Early life

Kevin Hartnett was born in Shanagarry, County Cork in 1984.

Playing career

Club

Hartnett plays hurling with his local club Russell Rovers, who play in the Cork Junior Hurling Championship. He also plays with the University College Cork team in the Cork Senior Hurling Championship. He usually plays on the half-back line or in midfield.

Inter-county

Hartnett first came to prominence as a hurler in 2001. That year Cork lost the Munster minor final to Tipperary, however, the team later won the All-Ireland title via the back-door system. Hartnett played a key role at midfield during that victory. The next few years lacked any further hurling honours, however, in 2005 Hartnett was at centre-back when Cork won the Munster under-21 title. That same year he joined the Cork senior hurling panel.

Hartnett made his senior debut as a substitute against Clare in the 2007 Munster quarter-final. As a result of the suspension of Seán Óg Ó hAilpín Hartnett will start his first senior championship game in the Munster semi-final against Waterford on June 17, 2007.

Commonly Mistaken Identity

Kevin Hartnett of the Cork hurling team is often mistaken for Ireland's premier web blogger Kevin Hartnett. [http://kevhartnett.wordpress.com]
