Shikaripur

Shikaripur is the one of the taluk headquarters of Shimoga District in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is around 52 k.m. from Shimoga, 50 k.m. from Ranebennur, 75 k.m. from Harihar and connected by road. Its one main street is called the Rath Beedhi( casually translated to English as 'car street' - named after the annual "Rath Yatra" that passes through this street. An ancient temple - Huchhuraya temple - after the god Hanuman - exists here. There is also a lake - Huchhurayana Kere - quite large. It is clean and large. Which is connected by cannal from Ajanapur.

The present chief minister of Karnataka, Mr.Yediyurappa hails from Shikaripur constituency.

Previously a thickly forested area, used by rulers for hunting- hence the name Shikari = hunt in kannada/Urdu.economy is mainly agricultural and related activities. Paddy is the main crop. though lately there is a shift towards crops like areca, maize.agriculture mostly dependent on mansoon. however there are few small dams providing some irrigation. Shikaripur is located at border of two geographic, cultural divisions.
