Laurence Pyke

Laurence Richard Dimond Pyke (1908 - 1987) was an Australian headmaster and university dean.

Pyke was the son of Richard, an accountant, and Lillian, a teacher, journalist and author. He was one of three children and was educated at Wesley College, Melbourne. Pyke graduated as a Bachelor of Science form the University of Melbourne and was a Rhodes Scholar 1934 [http://www.unimelb.edu.au/unisec/calendar/honcausa/rhodes.html Rhodes Scholars Elected for Victoria] . From 1952 to 1960 he was headmaster of Newington College, Sydney, [http://www.newingtoncollege.nsw.edu.au/about/history.html Short History of Newington College ] and later dean of graduate studies at the University of Melbourne. He died in July 1987.
