Roman Catholic Diocese of Lang Son and Cao Bang

The diocese of Lang Son and Cao Bang (Latin: Dioecesis Langsonensis et Caobangensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese in the North of Vietnam. Joseph Dang Duc Ngan is appointed to be become bishop of the diocese.

The creation of the diocese in present form was declared November 24, 1960.

The diocese covers an area of 17,815 km², and is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Hanoi.

By 2004, the diocese of Lang Son and Cao Bang had about 6,078 believers (0.5% of the population), 4 priests and 11 parishes.^[1]

St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Lang Son town has been assigned as the Cathedral of the diocese.^[2]

Some sources report the growth of catholic believers number and overall interest of local community to Roman Catholicism in Lang Son and Caobang diocese.^[3] In June, 2007, 50 deacons were officially ordained in Lang Son, which by some estimations, shows the improvement in relations between the Catholic Church and Hanoi.^[3]
