United States presidential election in Iowa, 2004

Iowa narrowly voted for Al Gore in 2000, but in 2004, the incumbent George W. Bush won with a 0.67% lead. Iowa is, traditionally, a swing state—the Democrats had won Iowa in the last four elections, but narrowly in all of them except 1988 when Michael Dukakis carried the state by 10 percentage points.
