NegaDuck (sometimes spelled as Negaduck or Nega-Duck) is a fictional character created for the Disney animated series "Darkwing Duck". He is the doppelgänger or "evil twin" version of the show's title character, and hates anything nice. He wears an outfit strongly reminiscent that of Darkwing, only with different, close to opposite coloring and often carries a chainsaw or various other weapons of destruction around. He is also one of the most recurring villains of the series, appearing in thirteen (Or Fourteen if you count the 'Negaduck Episode') episodes. Negaduck's origins are unclear. It is presumed that he is from the Negaverse.

His fighting skills and intellect are on par with his counterpart, but he is far more capable as he is nowhere near as egotistical. Fortunately, he lacks Darkwing's charisma and social skills, being a bloodthirsty sociopath incapable of maintaining allegiances. He can thus be defeated by "any" moderately skilled opponent who "can" win and keep allies. Interestingly he has a motorcycle that strikingly resembles Darkwing's Ratcatcher only its commonly bearing the colors of his schemed outfit (Red, Black and Yellow) and unlike Darkwing's the Duck Head is skeletal, fans call this the Troublemaker (Appearing in The Quiverwing Quack, Going nowhere Fast, and Malice's restaurant) , for other transportations he rarely uses as for getaway vechiles are the Negacopter (An helicopter seen in episodes Justice Ducks Part One, and Bad Luck Duck) and the Negaquack (Beginning of Bad Luck Duck, One could say his own Thunderquack and unlike Darkwing he knows how to pilot it, presumably taught by "Nega-Launchpad").

However, NegaDuck remains one of Darkwing Duck's most dangerous enemies, especially while acting along with the "Fearsome Five" (where he is, of all evidence, the unquestionable leader of the five), being as well the only alliance he has ever kept with other villains, not without inner quarrels. As the series progressed he took the title as 'Public Enemy Number One' and became Darkwing's most deadliest enemy for he has no agenda besides wreaking chaos and havoc upon St. Canard. On one occasion, Negaduck did all he could to destroy the city when he discovered that he was Public Enemy No. 2, rather than No. 1 (which was held by Doctor Slug). (The Quiverwing Quack). Despite Darkwing Duck's efforts, it's not likely he'll ever be rid of Negaduck. He has always returned, even from oblivion itself (Life, the Negaverse, and everything)

Like Darkwing, NegaDuck is voiced by Jim Cummings, only with a deeper, rougher voice.

Background

The "recurring character" NegaDuck, sometimes referred to as "NegaDuck II" (see 'NegaDuck I' below), first appeared in the two-part episode "Just Us Justice Ducks". NegaDuck wears the same outfit as Darkwing, but with an opposite color scheme and a black mask, and he also has a deeper voice. In "Just Us Justice Ducks", NegaDuck forms an alliance and leads a group known as "The Fearsome Five" with fellow villains Megavolt, Bushroot, Quackerjack, and the Liquidator acting as henchmen to his maniacal cause. NegaDuck is so fearsome that he can terrify the other four put together just by revving his chainsaw, even those (like the Liquidator) who have no real reason to be afraid of it.

NegaDuck's backstory was revealed in the episode immediately after "Just Us Justice Ducks" in terms of production order, "Life, the Negaverse, and Everything". According to that episode, NegaDuck comes from a parallel universe called "the Negaverse" where everyone is the opposite of who they are in the universe where the series is usually set. It is also stated in the episode that NegaDuck rules the negative St. Canard, if not the entire planet Earth of the Negaverse, completely and totally. The ineffectual heroes of this world are alternate versions of The Fearsome Five (obviously minus NegaDuck), known here as "The Friendly Four". NegaDuck's Gosalyn is sweet and feminine, unlike the mischievous tomboy from the normal universe (although both versions are basically good, meaning that morality is not always reversed in the Negaverse), while the evil version of Launchpad McQuack is psychotic. Evil versions of the Muddlefoot family live next door. As Herb, Binkie and a bratty version of Honker are all dressed in biker clothes, Tank is actually polite, dressed neatly with a styled hairdo and wearing glasses and is a genius, completely different from the bushy-haired bully in the normal dimension. NegaDuck lives with the Negaverse version of Gosalyn in a Negaverse version of the same home where Darkwing's alter ego Drake Mallard resides in the normal universe. He never actually capitalizes on this information in order to win his battles, although one possible reason for this is that he may not have decided to start using his alter ego again after adopting "Nega-Gosalyn" (Bushroot's counterpart says that NegaDuck is her guardian as opposed to an evil version of Drake Mallard, implying that he may not use his secret identity at all) and it just never occurred to him that Darkwing might have.

One source of rage for NegaDuck is the fact is that on a Public Enemies' list he is #2—after Dr. Slug. Naturally, NegaDuck wants to be Public Enemy #1.

Uses of Technology

Besides using the Negacopter, Negaquack, and the popular Troublemaker, Negaduck relies on either deathtraps, mystical diamonds and other technology for his advantage. Examples.

The Electro-Slave was a device used by the Fearsome Five, invented by Negaduck himself, that created an impenetrable electric wall around St. Canard, isolating it from the rest of the world.

The Expando-Whammo Pie was a type of spontaneously expanding pie fired by a bazooka. It is an experimental SHUSH weapon created by Dr. Sarah Bellum capable of literally putting someone's eyes out (as Darkwing Duck quickly discovered). Negaduck used this to destroy SHUSH HQ, the pies eventually became a liquidly substance and flooded the entire building.

The Eye of Quackzecoatl was a mysterious artifact stolen by Negaduck which could steal the powers of a target and give them to the wielder (the victims being reduced in size as well). Feeling that his fellow members of the Fearsome Five were using their powers incompetently, Negaduck used the Eye to steal them for himself, becoming "Mega-Negaduck." The shrunken Fearsome Fivers teamed with Darkwing Duck to stop their boss, and the Eye was shattered, restoring everything to normal.

The Nega-Hammer was a device he intended to use on Darkwing in the Negaverse St. Canard Tower. Darkwing was strapped on a table, the 'Nega-Hammer' would smashed Darkwing's body flat, compressing all the air and breaking all the bones in his body in this case he would become Negaduck's personal 'pancake', it would've been unleashed with the help of his pendulum once the rope that attached to it was torn. However Darkwing survives this deathtrap when he escapes with the help of one of Quackerjack's toys.

The Negablaster, a robot mecha he used against Morgana and Darkwing in Malice's Restaurant. It had an inbuilt chainsaw, razors, and a reflecter powerful enough to block Morgana's spells, at the end it was destroyed thanks to Darkwing.

In Justice Ducks he sets up a death torture/chamber for each member of the Justic Ducks (Minus Darkwing).Stegmutt was floating inside of a large glass chamber without gravity, Morgana's wrists were bonded and was in an Anti-Magic Draining device that enables her abilitis, Gizmoduck's suit was hooked up to a machine drains his suit's powers keeping him weak and powerless, and Neptuina was under a necular sun power lamps. Negaduck gleefully announces once he pulls the "switch": all the air will be sucked out of the chamber, suffocating Stegmutt, Morgana's head would be crushed, the energy reversal would fry him alive, and Neptuina would be fry becoming 'Fish-Fry/Sticks', he nearly accomplished this if not for Darkwing distracted him long enough for Morgana to free herself and cast a spell (Summoning a Yak that fells on Negaduck who meanwhile was seconds away using his chainsaw to kill Darkwing), Darkwing frees Morgana and Gizmoduck, Morgana frees Neptuina, and Gizmoduck frees Stegmutt.

Evil Twin

NegaDuck is, as established in "Life, the Negaverse, and Everything", an evil twin of Darkwing, being basically the same duck but with a nearly polar opposite personality. Both are extremely intelligent and highly trained in similar martial arts (although Negaduck is more focused on his goals then his image and doesn't constantly want to be in the media spotlight unlike Darkwing), and even have similar styles in attire (the same coat, undershirt, cape, mask, and hat). Even their voices are similar; Darkwing's voice can reach NegaDuck's tones when he is upset or angry. NegaDuck has used this to his advantage more than once, whether to frame Darkwing for a crime spree ("Disguise the Limit") or to sneak into S.H.U.S.H. headquarters ("Just Us Justice Ducks"). Darkwing has done the same at times ("Just Us Justice Ducks"). Sometimes, such disguises occur at the worst times (NegaDuck is mistaken for Darkwing when Darkwing is most wanted; Darkwing disguises himself as NegaDuck when the Fearsome Five stage a mutiny). Some of NegaDuck's abject hatred of Darkwing likely stems from this resemblance.

'Negatron'

The Negatron is one of the two fundamental particles of matter. A negatron represents all things negative and evil. Its opposite is the positron.

Megavolt's Tron-Splitter device separated matter into two objects, one composed entirely of just positrons, and the other entirely of just negatrons. When the device was accidentally used on Darkwing Duck, it caused him to be split into Posiduck and Negaduck. The negatrons in Negaduck were "galvanized" by another blast from the Tron-Splitter, causing him to become a powerful negative-energy being- the same was done to Posiduck so that he could defeat his antithesis, and they were eventually recombined. For more information read below the evil Darkwing (Negaduck)'s origin (Negaduck episode).

In the episode "Negaduck", which aired later than the episodes above but came earlier in production order (see List of Darkwing Duck episodes), we see what seems to be Darkwing's first encounter with an evil version of himself. While battling Darkwing Duck, Megavolt accidentally blasted him with his Tron-Splitter device, separating Darkwing into his positrons and negatrons. The positrons became the good Good Darkwing; the negatrons became the evil Evil Darkwing. The evil Darkwing imprisoned his counterpart and Darkwing's companions, then sought out Megavolt. He intended to destroy the Tron-Splitter to eliminate any chance of being re-integrated with his good counterpart. In Megavolt's apartment, The evil Darkwing tried to attack the villain with a sledgehammer, only to be accidentally blasted again by the Tron-Splitter, making him even more evil and powerful, completely turning him into a powerful negative destructive energetic entit and in his galvanized state the evil Darkwing names himself NegaDuck. Negaduck wreaked havoc on St. Canard, until the Good Darkwing was also "galvanized" and became Posiduck. This NegaDuck, sometimes called NegaDuck I by fans to distinguish him from the NegaDuck II of other episodes, never had the yellow, black and red suit of NegaDuck II. In this form, Posiduck held Negaduck off long enough for Megavolt to re-merge them into Darkwing Duck. The two Darkwings were merged back together shortly afterwards, and this NegaDuck has not appeared since. The Tron-Splitter was also destroyed shortly afterwards

Evil Darkwing's appearance: was only differed from the good Darkwing in his bushy eyebrows, and had the same voice tones as the second Negaduck.

Negaduck's appearance: After being galvanized he resembled a black and white photographic negative version of Darkwing. (See above)

Reconciliation of the two NegaDuck characters

In an interview, Tad Stones explains the relationship between the two NegaDucks:

"After we did the Negaduck episode, I really liked this character and I wanted to bring him back. They said "how?" and I said, "What do you mean how? He's back." We just did it, and in the episode Life, the Negaverse and Everything we just created this whole alternate reality he supposedly came from." [Strike, Joe. [http://mag.awn.com/index.php?ltype=search&sval=tad+stones&article_no=2157&page=7 The Tad Stones Interview, page 7] . "Animation World Magazine", July 12, 2004.]

The home video release "Darkwing Duck: His Favorite Adventures "Birth of Negaduck", contained the episode "Negaduck" but featured the longer running NegaDuck in yellow and red standing behind Darkwing Duck while the two appear to be electrified by a bolt of lightning. The glow-in-the-dark NegaDuck trading card that comes with the video features the recurring NegaDuck on the front but a bio of NegaDuck I on the back. According to Tad Stones, the second Negaduck was supposed to be one and the same as the original. An episode explaining this was planned but never produced.

Trivia

*As previously mentioned, Negaduck hails from the Negaverse. It is unknown whether DIC were aware of this when they combined the enemies from the first and second season of Sailor Moon into one group called the Negaverse (they were originally two separate groups called the Dark Kingdom and the Black Moon Clan).

*The word "nega" that's part of Negaduck's name is a pun to the word negative. For example, Negaduck is the opposite of Darkwing Duck, his darkside, or evil doppelganger.

*Although Negaduck first appeared in Just Us Justice Ducks It was not his debut, when Darkwing confronts him at SHUSH Central (Negaduck was also fully aware and it's implied from both ducks they confronted each other) he seemed to know who he was and immediately (Even when he was impersonating him) accused him behind the acts committed by his accomplices, and seemed fully aware of his violent behavior, thus making his debut appearance a mystery.
