List of highest mountains of North America

List of highest mountains of North America

The following is a ranked list of the highest independent mountains in North America. For purposes of this list North America is interpreted to include Central America. However only one Central American peak, Volcán Tajumulco, makes the list.] For this list, a strong criterion for independence is used,This strong independence criterion is used to restrict the list to well-known (and in particular named) peaks. Any smaller cutoff results in a list that includes unnamed subpeaks in the Yukon.] namely a minimum topographic prominence of convert|500|m|ft|0|lk=on|sp=us. Hence the United States peaks on the list do not match Wikipedia's list of fourteeners, which uses a smaller cutoff. This list is complete down to an elevation of convert|4200|m|ft|0|sp=us.
