Elm Springs is a city in Benton and Washington counties in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The population was 1,044 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Elm Springs is located at coor dms|36|12|27|N|94|13|17|W|city (36.207590, -94.221515)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.8 square miles (9.8 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,044 people, 385 households, and 296 families residing in the city. The population density was 276.9 people per square mile (106.9/km²). There were 410 housing units at an average density of 108.7/sq mi (42.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.58% White, 0.38% Black or African American, 0.96% Native American, 1.53% Asian, 2.49% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 4.31% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 385 households out of which 29.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.1% were married couples living together, 4.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.1% were non-families. 17.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the city the population was spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 103.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $40,703, and the median income for a family was $45,536. Males had a median income of $30,550 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,551. About 8.6% of families and 12.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.8% of those under age 18 and 5.0% of those age 65 or over.
