In the pilot episode, "Saga of a Star World", President Adar (played by Lew Ayres) was the last elected President of the Quorum of the Twelve.

Relying on Count Baltar for advice, Adar fatally ordered the Colonial fleet not to assume a defensive posture as they were ambushed by a horde of 1000 Cylon raiders. When told that the Cylons were likely simultaneously attacking the colony worlds as well, Adar died in despair realizing the cost of his stupidity aboard his flagship, the battlestar "Atlantia", when it was destroyed during The Destruction of the Twelve Colonies.

President Adar's analogue in the reimagined series is Richard Adar.

* Adar is also the name of the 6th month in the ecclesiastical year and 12th month of the civil year in the Hebrew calendar.
