"The Great Escape" is the second single from Boys Like Girls' eponymous debut album, and is also their first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at 23. The single has been certified Platinum by the RIAA, for selling over 1 million downloads. Music video
The music video was directed by Alan Ferguson and was filmed in January 2007. Released in late February 2007, it was added to MTV playlists and received considerable airplay on those channels along with Fuse TV. It features the band on the road, as well as in concert, while detailing the journey of a group of their fans on the way to and during their best concert.
Parts of the video were filmed on the Granada Hills Charter High School campus located in Granada Hills, California.Fact|date=June 2008 The concert portions were filmed in Los Angeles, CA.
The video was released to U.K. music channels in February 2008.
There are no actual instances of censorship in the music video. In an interview with Kurt LoderFact|date=June 2008, the band stated that the lyrics were originally "Let's get drunk and "drive around"," but were changed to "...ride around" as to not appear to be promoting drunk driving.
