Piano Sonata No. 52 in E-flat major (Haydn)

Piano Sonata No. 52 in E-flat major (Haydn)

The Piano Sonata No. 52 in E Flat Major (Hoboken 16/52) was written in 1794 by Joseph Haydn. It was dedicated to Magdalene von Kurzbeck. This is the last of Haydn's 52 Piano Sonatas and is considered his greatest by most classically trained musicians. It has a strong sense of rhythmic vitality and forward momentum as well as a granite-like architecture.

Movements

The work has three movements:
*I. Allegro in E Flat Major
*II. Adagio in E Major and E Minor
*III. Finale: Presto

The first movement takes roughly 7-8 minutes to perform, the second movement 6.5-7.5 minutes, and the third movement 5-6 minutes.
