Thomas Mycroft

Thomas Mycroft

Thomas Mycroft (March 28, 1848 — August 13, 1911) was an English cricketer. He was a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Derbyshire between 1877 and 1885, and also for Marylebone Cricket Club. Mycroft was born in Brimington and died in Mickleover.

Mycroft's career started in 1877, when he made his debut against Kent, scoring eight runs. Mycroft was to hit a bad patch in his career soon afterwards, when, in two years, he would fail to score any runs in five consecutive innings. However, he would soon hit back, making a career-best score immediately afterwards for Marylebone Cricket Club. Mycroft would play only occasionally over the next four years, however, he improved in 1884, making twelve appearances in the season.

Mycroft would only play one more match for Derbyshire after 1884, against Marylebone Cricket Club, after which, he left the team. He would play two further cricket matches, appearing for the South of England and, soon afterwards, Marylebone Cricket Club, before quitting the game.

Following the close of his playing career, Mycroft took up a job as an iron-moulder, living in Ilkeston with a wife and one child. He subsequently returned to the game as an umpire, from 1897 to 1905, standing in two Test Matches.

His half-brother, William, was a Derbyshire cricketer between 1873 and 1885.
