Arthur Forman

Arthur Forman (July 26, 1850 — February 13, 1905) was a Gibraltar-born English cricketer. Forman was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm roundarm bowler who played for Derbyshire between 1877 and 1882.

Forman's first two appearances came during the summer of 1877, in which he debuted against Hampshire, in an innings victory for the Derbyshire team. Forman played one further match in the year, though Derbyshire were not to play another first-class fixture for nearly nine months. Forman played in a game against Nottinghamshire in which seven players scored no runs, and Derbyshire set their lowest-ever first-class single innings total of 16, a record which still stands over 125 years later.

The interceding three years in which Forman did not play a first-class fixture, Derbyshire altered their ranks significantly, improving the strength of their opening order, and when Forman returned, the team felt obliged to insert him in this position, batting first in the lineup, where he, along with batting partners Robert Smith and Ludford Docker managed to string together a powerful opening attack. In all but one of Forman's appearances for Derbyshire, either they or the opposing team won by an innings margin or greater.

Forman died in Repton at the age of 54. His son, Humphrey, played first-class cricket for Somerset and Cambridge University in 1910.
