Pentangular Trophy

The Pentangular Trophy is a Pakistani first class cricket competition.

History

It was first contested in 1973-74 and later in the decade the competition's name was changed the BCCP Invitation Tournament. In 1980-81 it became the PACO Cup and remained so for a further five seasons. For the rest of the decade the tournament didn't take place and it wasn't until the 1990's that is returned, albeit sporatically. The Trophy finally became a permanent fixture again in 2005-06.

Format

The Pentangular Trophy is generally contested between five teams who play each other on a robin basis. Unlike other Pakistani tournaments there is no final and the winner is the side that topped the table with the most points. Currently the top three placed teams from the Patron's Trophy and the finalists from the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy qualify for the tournament.

Regional tournament

In 2007-08 a regional Pentangular Trophy was introduced. Sponsored by ABN-AMRO, it featured the following five teams:

* Baluchistan cricket team
* Federal Areas cricket team
* North West Frontier Province cricket team
* Punjab cricket team (Pakistan)
* Sind cricket team
