"Tryin' to Get the Feeling Again" is a song written by David Pomeranz. It was sung by '70s superstars Barry Manilow and the Carpenters. Manilow's version was included on his album, "Tryin' to Get the Feeling," and the Carpenters' version wasn't released until 1995, on their 25th anniversary CD, "."

Barry Manilow version

Manilow released his version as a single in 1976 from his album "Tryin' to Get the Feeling". It became the most successful version of the song at the time, charting in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 at #10. The song also hit #1 on the adult contemporary chart.

The Carpenters version

The Carpenters' version was recorded in 1975 during the "Horizon" sessions. However, there was no room on the record for more songs. They just packed it away in a box labeled "Only Yesterday," and wasn't uncovered until 1995, when it was remixed and remastered for the release of their 25th anniversary celebration.

Interpretations insert excerpt

Richard writes about "Tryin' to Get the Feeling Again," which was included in the CD insert of the compilation, "."

Karen and I recorded this track in January 1975, during the Horizon sessions. We did not include it in that release, as we felt that that set ultimately featured an adequate amount of ballads. For some unknown reason, the title was never catalogued, and over the years Karen, Roger and I assumed it had been inadvertently discarded. On November 29, 1991, while remixing tracks for our Japanese "Karaoke" album, Roger found the title on the multi-track tape containing "Only Yesterday". The impending release of Interpretations provided an excellent reason for me to orchestrate and complete the production. Strings were recorded on the 31st of May 1994. Roger and I mixed the selection on June 6th. Karen's flawless performance of the song is a "work lead," solely intended to familiarize bassist Joe Osborn and drummer Jim Gordon with the melody. (One cam hear the lyric sheet being turned over by Karen as she segues from the end of the first chorus into the second verse.) For this reason alone, the lead would have been re-recorded had we decided to complete the production in 1975. Certain sections of the lead also would have been "doubled" hence the "effect" used in the mix. Karen sings the lyrics as originally written by David Pomeranz. Barry Manilow, who subsequently had a hit with this song, asked that some words be changed for his interpretation.
