Pen-y-Fai

Pen-y-Fai is a village in the county borough of Bridgend, Wales falling within the Bridgend electoral ward area.

It has a population of about 2,000, [ [http://www.bridgend.gov.uk/Web1/groups/public/documents/about-bcbc/000823.hcsp Bridgend Urban District Council statistics] ] one village shop, a chapel and All Saints parish church (Church in Wales). It also has a pub, the Pheasant, and was once a village for employees of the Llewellyn estate. There is also a school in the village that takes children from age 4 through to age 11. The school itself is in a poor state of repair and has been earmarked for replacement for many years. However protracted legal action between the Bridgend County Borough Council and certain local landowners, has served to delay the building of a new school.

There are several playing fields in the village, the most recent of which was created as a part of a section 106 agreement between the council and the developers of the Cavendish Park housing. As a result of subsequent development, this field has become "landlocked" between housing estates, with no vehicle access or parking, or indeed any facilities to allow the field to be used by local sports teams. Its sole purpose now appears to be an area for local people to walk and toilet their dogs.

One other notable feature of the village, is its football (soccer) club Pen-y-fai FC. The club takes children from 6 to 16 years of age and plays as a member of Bridgend & District Football League. With teams in the mini-football and junior sections. The club has over 200 children within its ranks making it one of the largest mini/junior clubs in the district.

The sight in the summer of some of so many of its youngest members training on field next to the Pheasant pub is certainly one the most recognisable in the village. Indeed, it is a very popular location with the parents also, allowing them to watch and admire their children whilst enjoying a beer or a glass of wine.
