North Avenue (Baltimore)

North Avenue (Baltimore)

North Avenue is a major street that runs west-east across the city of Baltimore, Maryland, is considered by many to be the northern boundary of downtown Baltimore, and at one time was the northern boundary of the city of Baltimore. A large portion of North Avenue is a part of US-1. North Avenue is Exit 6 off Interstate 83. North Avenue is notable for being one of the major streets to connect East and West Baltimore without going into the downtown business district. As such, the avenue contains many blighted sections of both East and West Baltimore.

There are two rapid transit stations along North Avenue: the Penn-North Metro Subway Station at Pennsylvania Avenue, and the North Avenue Light Rail Stop between the I-83 interchange and Howard Street. Bus service is available on Maryland Transit Administration bus routes 13 and 91.

Major landmarks on North Avenue include Coppin State University, Baltimore City Public Schools Headquarters and the Great Blacks in Wax Museum
