Adaptations
Live-action pilot
In the 1950s, a live action pilot was made for a Tetsujin 28 television series. The pilot featured a man in a Tetsujin costume. Tetsujin in this version was only slightly taller than an average person, due to the money it would cost to make the robot appear 3 stories tall. The series was never made, and Tetsujin 28 was later made into an anime instead.
1963 TV series
1980 TV series
The 1980-81 "Iron Man #28" series was created with 51 color episodes based on a modernized take upon the original concept art. In
1993 , Ladd and the TMS animation studio converted the series into "The New Adventures of Gigantor" and broadcast it on America's Sci-Fi Channel fromSeptember 9 1993 toJune 30 1997 .Tetsujin 28 FX
"Iron Man #28 FX" follows the son of the original controller (from the 1980
TV series) operating a new robot (with his father and the original Tetsujin making guest appearances), which ran in Japan in 1992.2004 TV series
Written and directed by
Yasuhiro Imagawa , the 2004 re-imagining takes place ten years afterWorld War II , approximately the same time as the manga debuted. The newTV series has been released in the United States under its original name "Tetsujin-28" byGeneon and in theUK byManga Entertainment , the first time a "Tetsujin-28" property has not been localized to "Gigantor" in America or other English speaking nations. On March 31, 2007, a feature length film, entitled "Tetsujin 28-go: Hakuchu no Zangetsu" (which translates as "Tetsujin 28-go: The Remaining Month") and based on the same characters and visual designs as the

Americanization
In the Americanization of the 1963 Tetsujin 28 series by
Fred Ladd , many changes were made; the most obvious of which was the robot's name (Tetsujin 28 was renamed Gigantor). Many other characters' names were changed, including:Shotaro Kaneda (Jimmy Sparks), Dr. Shikishima (Dr. Bob Brilliant), and Inspector Otsuka (Inspector Blooper). Tetsujin 28'sWorld War II origins were discarded entirely, and the setting shifted to the year2000 .The 1980 Tetsujin 28 series was also exported to America in
1993 , retitled as The New Adventures of Gigantor. The2004 series was released onDVD byGeneon , and it kept its original title.Appearances in other media
A number of characters and robots from the "Tetsujin 28" series appeared (albeit with altered backgrounds) in "", an OAV series that drew on Mitsuteru Yokoyama's entire body of work. In one of the "Giant Robo" parodic spin-off OAVs "Mighty GinRei", a version of the original Tetsujin appears under the name "Jintetsu."
