History

This Edo period post town flourished along the Nakasendō because it also connected with Kurihangaidō (九里半街道), [http://www.ibisoku.co.jp/nakasenndou/imasu_Top.htm Nakasendo Imasu-juku] . Ibisoku Co., Ltd. Accessed July 11, 2007.] a trade road that connected the northwestern shores of Lake Biwa with Kohama. [http://www.geocities.jp/tugukeiko12/kurihan1.html Kurihangaidō] . t.keiko. Accessed July 13, 2007.] Along with Tarui-juku, it was the first post town of the Five Routes of Edo to be serviced by cars.
