"Workers Solidarity" is the bi-monthly publication of the Irish anarchist organisation, Workers Solidarity Movement. It is intended to provide an accessible introduction to anarchism for members of the public and to spread the influence of anarchist ideas in Ireland. It takes its name from the newspaper of the CNT, "Solidaridad Obrera".

History

When the Workers Solidarity Movement was founded in 1984, the members began to publish Workers Solidarity as a primary part of their activity. It was first produced in a traditional newspaper format and sold for 20 Irish pence when the organisation was founded in 1984. Members distributed it in local pubs and at political rallies and demonstrations. Early issues were written in support of the Dunnes Stores Strike against apartheid and against Catholic Church control of education. The paper changed in 2000 to its current format. Members distribute Workers Solidarity primarily door-to-door in their local neighbourhoods, and also at political demonstrations and other events.

As of February 2008, it has released 100 issues and has a print run of 8000.

Format

Workers Solidarity is a glossy page A4 that folds out into an A3. It contains anarchist analysis of contemporary news, and social struggles with particular focus on campaigns that the WSM is involved in. There are also Historical articles on class struggle history and a 'Thinking about Anarchism' section which contains a basic introduction to an aspect of anarchist theory. Past issues have contained discussions on Feminism, Communism, Class Struggle and Crime and Justice from an Anarchist position.
