Reinhardtsdorf-Schöna is a municipality in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district, Saxony, Germany.

Reinhardtsdorf-Schöna has a population of approximately 1,600 persons and is located in what is popularly known as the 'Saxony Switzerland' region of Germany. The village is close to the Czech border. The Mayor is Olaf Ehrlich.

There are many activities to pursue including hiking, mountain biking and horse riding in the beautiful countryside, which is very popular with German tourists and with international tourists. In fact, Reinhardtsdorf-Schöna is so popular it is often difficult to find accommodation in peak season. As an alternative, it is possible to bring one's tent and equipment and camp in suitable areas.

Although tourism is a very important component of the local economy, there is also a great reliance on agriculture, with an emphasis on cereals including diversification into other crops such as Oilseed rape.

To the North-west, as the crow flies, it is a short 28Km distance to the outskirts of the city of Dresden. Unfortunately, apart from the possibility of travelling by the Elbe river, the roads to Dresden are of a picturesque, but minor quality. A pleasant drive on a Sunday, perhaps, but not so good if one is in a hurry to get to work in Dresden.

English speaking visitors will find it a challenge without some knowledge of German, but this can also be very helpful for those wanting to practice their German, since they will be much less able to revert to their mother tongue (muttersprache). With that in mind, a fortnight spent in Reinhardtsdorf-Schöna would be time and money well spent. The possibility of offering such a holiday option, as is moderately common in Poland, for example, is under consideration for development with the Goethe Institute, and their EU cultural partners. This may also include a further development of the German courses made available by DW-Welle/DW-World.DE, so as to feature material with content which reflects aspects of life in Reinhardtsdorf-Schöna and the region in general.

10Km north-west, as the crow flies, on the far side of the Elbe river, is the world famous Rathen Rock Theatre. It is here that dramatic reenactments of scenes from the famous western novels of Karl May are performed for tourists. The actors are dressed in period costume, and a considerable amount of gunplay and use of pyrotechnics greatly adds to the drama.

Berlin is approximately 175Km to the north. This is little more than a two hour drive, traffic permitting, but there is also the option of taking the ICE from Dresden HBF to Berlin HBF. Travel times by train are between 2-3 hours, depending on the number of stops on the schedule, and time of day or night. Thus, Reinhardtsdrof-Schöna is not particularly out of the way for those looking for the delights and pace of life of the German capital.

Lying 14Km south of Reinhardsdorf-Schöna, and across the Czech-Republic's border, lies the city of Decin. Again, Reinhardsdorf-Schöna is well placed in relation to significant Metropolitan areas for the purposes of employment, trade and tourism, for example, without having to worry unduly about developments, which would spoil the local environment. That said, like any small town/village, some consideration has to be given to avoid the tendency to become a dormitory town/village, and to encourage the younger generation to remain and earn a living. This is a challenge that is not unique to Reinhardsdorf-Schöna, but it does have to be confronted and overcome.
