Strange bedfellows

Strange bedfellows

The idiomatic English expession strange bedfellows is used in reference to situations wherein political or other mutual interests can bring together people who otherwise have little in common. This saying is taken from a line in "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare, spoken by a shipwrecked man who finds himself seeking shelter beside a sleeping monster: :“Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows.” [" [http://www.bartleby.com/59/3/politicsmake.html Politics makes strange bedfellows] ", "The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy", Third Edition, E.D.
