Carl Wiman (1867-1944) was a Swedish paleontologist and the first professor of paleontology at Uppsala University.cite web |url=http://www.paleobiologi.geo.uu.se/Download/Life&Earth.pdf |title=Life and Earth History |accessdate=2007-07-18 |last=Holmer |first=Lars |year=2000 |format=PDF |publisher=Lars Holmer Uppsala Universitet |pages=38 |language=English ] He published on a variety of topics, including extinct penguins, cite journal |last=Wiman |first=Carl |year=1905 |title=Vorläufige Mitteilung über die alttertiären Vertebraten der Seymourinsel |journal=Bulletin of the Geological Institute of Uppsala |volume=6 |pages=247–253 |language=German] and dinosaur fossils sent to Sweden from China and the San Juan Basin of New Mexico (U.S.A.). He is responsible for naming the genera "Helopus" (renamed "Euhelopus" because "Helopus" was already in use) and "Tanius",cite journal |last=Wiman |first=Carl |year=1930 |title=Die Kreide-Dinosaurier aus Shantung |journal=Palaeontologia Sinica, series C |volume=6 |issue=1 |pages=1–67 |language=German] and the species "Pentaceratops fenestratus"cite journal |last=Wiman |first=Carl |year=1930 |title=Über Ceratopsia aus der Oberen Kreide in New Mexico |journal=Nova Acta Regiae Societatis Scientarum Upsaliensis, series 4 |volume=7 |issue=2 |pages=1–19 |language=German] and "Parasaurolophus tubicen".cite journal |last=Wiman |first=Carl |year=1931 |title="Parasaurolophus tubicen", n. sp. aus der Kreide in New Mexico |journal=Nova Acta Regiae Societatis Scientiarum Upsaliensis, series 4 |volume=7 |issue=5 |pages=1–11 |language=German] He was also the first to suggest that the hollow cranial crests of lambeosaurine duckbill dinosaurs could be used as a horn-like noisemaker. "Wiman's Law" states that the stolon of dendroid graptolites divides in groups of three: "one branch went into the bitheca, one into the autotheca, and one continued up along the stipe."

He is recognized for his contributions to paleontology in the names of the extinct penguins "Archaeospheniscus wimani" and "Palaeospheniscus wimani", and the sauropod dinosaur "Borealosaurus wimani".
