Tihomir of Bulgaria

Tihomir of Bulgaria

Tihomir ( _bg. Тихомир) was a 11th century Bulgarian noble. In 1040 the Bulgarians under Peter Delyan revolted. The uprising broke out in Belgrad where Delyan was proclaimed Emperor under the name Petar II. He quickly liberated the western Bulgarians lands.

In the same time the Bulgarians in the thema of Drach followed their example and gathered around Tihomir, who was known as a skilled and experienced soldier, and was also proclaimed Emperor. Delyan knew that the existence of two separate rebel camps would make obstacles and invited Tihiomir to e meeting. In the meeting Petar Delyan made a convincing speech and said that an army with two leaders will inevitably fall. The Bulgarians should chose only one leader and as Petar II Delyan convinced them that he is a son of Gavril Radomir and descendent the heroic Emperor Samuil they preferred his leadership and Tihomir was killed.
