Schellinger was raised the sixth of eight children in

He attended St. Joseph's High School, where he played for the school's football team. Staying close to home, Schellinger worked his way through the
University of Notre Dame . At Notre Dame, Schellinger earned his degree in architecture.Professional life
One of Schellinger's first jobs out of college was at CSO Architects. Within ten years, he became president of the company. Schellinger was appointed by Mayor Bart Peterson to serve on the Capital Improvement Board.
2008 campaign
When Schellinger, joined the race for governor, he was the second of three Democratic candidates in the primary race, along with Richard Young and
Jill Long Thompson . As a political newcomer, he is described as a "moderate Democrat." Schellinger had received early endorsements from CongresswomanJulia Carson , Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, and by theUAW . Schellinger raised $1.2 million during the second financial quarter, and despite doing so, was not able to beat Long Thompson despite her being outspent by a significant margin.External links
