Arms discovery in Iraqi Embassy

Baluch and Iraq relation were strong before U.S invasion of Iraq and can be traced from centuries. In 1970s Iraq and Soviet were help Baluchis to get their independence from Iran and Pakistan but things went wrong when one of the Baluch nationalist leader, Akbar Bugti demands were not accept by other nationalist leader Ghaus Bakhsh Bizenjo and Ataullah Mengal of National Awami Party (Wali) to give Mr. Bugti the post of Governor in the province. In 9th February 1973 at midnight Akbar Khan Bugti revealed to Pakistani authorities about weapons shipment smuggled from Russia by help of Iraq which kept in the Iraqi embassy in Islamabad. In 10th February 1973, when authorities storm the Iraqi embassy, they found 300 Soviet submachine guns with 50,000 rounds of ammunitions and large amount of cash which were for Baluchi separatist groups. Sher Mohammad Marri another Baluch nationalist leader visited Baghdad same year. Later it was reported that arms were for both side Baluchis to dismember Pakistan and Iran. After few months later report was unveiled by some local newspapers that in real arms were not found in Islamabad but in Karachi Iraqi consulate. The Pakistani authorities showed weapons in Islamabad will had great impact and better support for government by other ethnic groups in the country. Baluch insurgence end in 1977 with thousand of civilian, Baluchi fighter and Pakistani forces dead. Iraq support went on coming years for Baluchis.
