Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement

The Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement (KVE) is a statewide law enforcement agency for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The department, which was a stand alone department until a July 14, 2008 executive order from Governor Steve Beshear, is now a division of the Kentucky State Police (KSP). pecial Note

Although KVE officers primarily enforce commercial vehicle laws, their sworn officers are considered peace officers of the Commonwealth and have full power to issue citations and make arrests. Prior to the merger with the KSP, KVE officers would often provide speed enforcement and will enforce other traffic laws, acting as a "de facto" highway patrol. While still maintaining full law enforcement authority, it is expected that the merger with the KSP will allow KVE officers to return to focusing on commercial vehicle enforcemment.
